Vice President of Academic Affairs Letter

Students,

Vice President John O'Brien

Welcome to Student Success Day! We are pleased at the Century College to be again organizing an entire day's activity around the idea of student success. In reality, our first-rate faculty and staff are focused on your success every day, but it is helpful nonetheless to pause and think more deliberately about what it takes to be successful. Join us for sessions that will address areas that challenge you academically and reinforce areas you are already improving. Student Success Day is a community event, and we hope you find your time well spent, whether you sharpen your study skills, meet with your instructor, work on your GPS LifePlan — spend a little time on all of the above.

This year, the college is promoting our new Early Warning System in conjunction with Student Success Day. Participating instructors, when they observe that you may be having difficulty in their class, will arrange to send you a letter alerting you of their concern and encouraging you take action, such as visiting with them during office hours or during scheduled times on Student Success Day and participating actively in Student Success Day activities--especially those that directly address your challenge areas. Not all faculty will send letters, however, so rather than assuming that no news is good news, take some time before Student Success Day to meet with each of your instructors during his or her office hours to see how you are doing and learn whether you should focus on particular challenges during Student Success Day. Faculty members are available for individual student conferences on Student Success Day.

Whatever the challenges or whatever the need, I hope you will take the time on Student Success Day to sit back and reflect on where you have been and where you are headed academically.

We want to be there to celebrate your academic accomplishments, and we are always here to help you find access to the resources you need to overcome challenges.

We'll see you on Student Success Day!

John O'Brien
Academic Vice President
